The much anticipated sequel to the 2010 smash Kick-Ass was written and directed by Jeff Wadlow and stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Chloë Grace Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, and Jim Carrey. Kick-Ass (Taylor-Johnson) decides to come out of retirement and with the help of Hit Girl (Moretz) gets trained up and battle ready. He takes a liking to the idea of teaming up with her so that he can fight crime knowing he’s got a sidekick. Hit Girl is going through the typical high school “coming of age” stuff which really gives her character some inner conflict and a serious case of identity crisis. This leads Kick-Ass to broaden the search and with the help of the inter-webs he finds other super heroes that want to band together to keep the streets clean. The group of characters he teams up with each has their own baggage leading them to a life of fighting crime behind a mask (every one of which as entertaining as the last). Here’s where we meet Colonel Stars and Stripes (Carrey) who’s the leader of the pack. Inspired by Kick-Ass he dropped the mob game and put on a mask. His character is fantastic and Carrey really delivers on this one…he’s got that loveable charm and perfect comedic timing as always. Though the premise of the film in any other context would be looked at as a silly waste of time, the characters make you believe that all this could really happen and has you riveted to the very end. With a villain named “The Mother Fucker” you know that shit is really goin’ down. He’s seeking vengeance for the murder of his father in the first one and his deranged psyche and unwillingness to understand that it’s real life provide Kick-Ass and the crew with some pretty tough challenges, all of which are both humorous and kind of scary at the same time. If you loved the first one then you won’t be disappointed by its sequel!
