Dead Man Down (2013) Miller Meter–6.5

Directed By: Niels Arden Oplev

Written By:  J.H. Wyman

Starring:  Colin Farrell, Noomi Rapace, Dominic Cooper, Terrance Howard

I saw the trailer for thought holy hell, what is this all about? Then I saw that it was directed by Niels Arden Oplev who did the original Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Worlds Apart and knew I had to see it. It stars Colin Farrell and Noomi Rapace. Victor (Farrell) is the right hand man to Alphonse (played by Terrence Howard) who is a mid level mafia figure. Victor’s path crosses with a woman named Beatrice (Noomi Rapace) and they form a pretty quirky relationship. Overall I was entertained, the action was good, suspense was powerful and the story had me. I thought Farrell did a pretty good job, and Rapace though somewhat new to the big screen (having come from TV) carried one hell of a presence. The reason I give it a 6.5 is because the end though satisfying fell short of being a smash, it was somewhat anti-climactic and had a little too much cheese for me. Other than that, pretty damn good time!
